The Summer Hikaru Died Wiki

Tsujinaka Satoko ( (つじ) (なか) () () () , Tsujinaka Satoko?)[1] is one of the Characters in The Summer Hikaru Died, written and illustrated by Mokumokuren.

Overview[]

The mother of Yoshiki and Kaoru. She has a rocky relationship with her husband, Toshinori.

Appearance[]

Satoko is a woman of average height and build. She has gray eyes and black, short hair that was dyed a lighter color in the past.[2]

Personality[]

Satoko, as described by Toshinori,[3] is a strong woman with a passionate character. She always says what's on her mind, so she often gets into arguments with people in the village. She has a hard time letting go once she starts insisting on something.[4]

She's relatively lax with her children,[5] for example, refraining from forcing Kaoru to go to school. However, she's privately very concerned about her and seems to want the best for her children. She generally has an outwardly cold demeanor, but is deeply loving on the inside.[4]

History[]

Satoko was a hairdresser living in Tokyo. One day, a man, Tsujinaka Toshinori, came into her shop for a haircut. He explained that he kept getting lost, leading to the police questioning him frequently for wandering. He clumsily bumped into the counter and hit his head on the doorway on his way out. Satoko worried about how he would fare on his own. Before she knew it, they were married. She then moved to Kubitachi with Toshinori.[2]

Etymology[]

  • The kanji of her surname, Tsujinaka, are "crossroad" (辻 tsuji) and "middle of; inside" (中 naka).
  • The kanji of her given name, Satoko, are "sand" (沙 sa), "metropolis, capital" (都 to), and "child" (子 ko).
