This is the Summer Hikaru Died Wiki's Manual of Style. Here you will find general format guidelines for writing articles.
Writing Style
- Articles should be written in US English.
- Do not write large walls of text. Smaller, concise paragraphs are preferred because they increase readability.
- Write articles in present-tense. Exceptions that should be written in past-tense include History sections on character pages, and flashbacks within plot summaries.
- Avoid using obscenities, slang terms, and euphemisms in articles. They can be used only in the context of quotes from characters.
- In general, articles should be written using in-universe wording.
- Do not refer to the reader.
- Do not refer to published media. Avoid phrases like "in chapter 5". Exception: for adaptation differences, phrases like "in the manga" or "in the anime" can be used.
- Do not allude to the possibility that information might change as the series updates. Avoid "currently" or "so far".
Sourcing
- The manga is considered the primary source for The Summer Hikaru Died.
- The anime is also an acceptable source as long as it does not deviate from the manga. Anime-only changes should be labeled in-text or somewhere on the page as an adaptation note.
- If necessary, the official Twitter or Bluesky accounts of the series and the author may be cited.
- In this case, you must include a link to the Tweet/Bluesky post at bare minimum.
- The citation should ideally also include the Twitter/Bluesky handle, the date posted, a direct quote, and a hyperlink to the Tweet/Bluesky post. If you want to be fancy you can also include the retrieval date.
- Example: Mokumokuren, Twitter @mokmok_len (April 20, 2023). 本日4/20はよしきの誕生日です. Retrieved on August 17, 2024.
- Since Tweets/Bluesky posts can be deleted, adding some or all of this extra information helps document the source in case the link becomes unusable in the future. Again, this is optional but encouraged.
- Other webpages can be cited by stating the website title and the page title. For example:
- Yen Press: The Summer Hikaru Died, Vol. 1
- If you would like to be more thorough, you can use {{Cite web}}. Refer to template documentation for guidelines. This is the preferred method for news articles.
- We aim to make this Wiki a detailed database with easily identifiable sources. Proper citations are required on every article (except for when the reference is self-evident, ex. during a chapter article's plot summary). Speculation and subjective/opinion statements should be avoided.
Naming Conventions
- Character articles should simply be called their full name, without titles.
- Character articles should be titled using Japanese naming conventions – family name before given name. For example, Tsujinaka Yoshiki and Tsujinaka Kaoru, not Yoshiki Tsujinaka or Kaoru Tsujinaka.
- Since chapters and volumes do not have official titles, article names should simply be "Chapter #" and "Volume #".
- Never add leading zeroes. The article should be "Volume 6," not "Volume 06".
Layout
Chapters (example: Chapter 17)

Characters (examples: Asako, Tanaka)
- Infobox – Use {{Character}}. Refer to template documentation for guidelines.
- Introduction – No heading. Write the character's full name in bold, followed by "is one of the Characters in The Summer Hikaru Died, written and illustrated by Mokumokuren." Use {{Nihongo}} to add kana and {{Ruby}} to add furigana. See template documentation for guidelines.
- Overview – Level 2 heading (two '=' signs). Indent using : and italicize all text in this section. Write 1-3 concise sentences stating the character's place in the story.
- Appearance – Level 2 heading. Describe general appearance - hair, eyes, stature, clothing as they are usually seen, and notable features such as birthmarks or scars.
- Personality – Level 2 heading. Short but informative description of the character's main personality traits. Avoid extensive plot summary; if an example is necessary, describe it briefly and cite it.
- Relationships – Level 2 heading. Describe the character's relationship with other characters. Separate per relationship, using the second character's name as a Level 3 heading (three '=' signs).
- History – Level 2 heading. States the character's background. This is story content that occurred before the main timeline of the plot.

- Gallery – Level 2 heading. Contains an image gallery of the character.
- References – Level 2 heading. Use {{Refs}}.
- Navigation – Level 2 heading. Use {{Characters Navbox}}.
If the Relationships and/or Gallery sections become significantly long, use {{Tabs}} to move the section into a subpage. Synopsis (summary of the character's involvement in the plot) should always be a subpage.
Story Arcs (example: Daily Life Arc)
- Infobox – Use {{Arc}}. Refer to template documentation for guidelines.
- Introduction – No heading. "ARC NAME is the 1st narrative arc of the manga The Summer Hikaru Died." Replace "1st" with the appropriate number.
- Plot – Level 2 heading (two '=' signs). Provide a summary of the arc. It should be reasonably detailed, but not as in-depth as the chapter articles. Each chapter should be cited one time at the end of its plot summary. To increase readability, appropriately-titled Level 3 headings (three '=' signs) should be used to break the plot into smaller sub-sections.
- Story Impact – Level 2 heading. Briefly describe notable events that occurred or important information that was revealed during this arc. Should be formatted in a bulleted list.
- Characters Introduced – Level 2 heading. List of characters that debuted during this arc. Refer to example linked above for source code.
- Locations – Level 2 heading. Bulleted list of notable locations that were introduced during this arc.
- References – Level 2 heading. Use {{Refs}}.
- Navigation – Level 2 heading. Use {{Chapters Navbox}}.
