- A former head of the Indou family who lived in Kubitachi in the 1740s. He wished for Nounuki-sama to revive his deceased wife, which resulted in bizarre mass deaths now regarded as the Indou family's karma.

The Indou Ancestor was a young man was light stubble on his chin. According to Yoshiki, his face resembles that of his descendant, Indou Hikaru.[citation needed]
History[]
The Indou Ancestor lived in Kubitachi during the 1740s. In 1749,[1] his wife, Indou Hichi, fell ill during a plague that struck the village and passed away. Indou then brought her severed head up the mountain and requested that Nounuki-sama to bring her back to life, offering anything in exchange other than the Indou family. Hichi was revived, but she was basically just a living head. She suffered painfully and died again the same night. However, the village also suffered a huge number of casualties – one-third of the population died in mysterious, head/neck-related incidents. This event became known as the Indou family's karma or sin. From then until modern day, the men of the Indou family have brought Hichi's head to Nounuki-sama's mountain and completed an apology ritual every five years.[2]
Etymology[]
- The kanji of his surname, Indou, are "mourning; abhor, detest(able)" (忌 in) and "hall; shrine" (堂 dou).
