This is the 7th Chapter of The Summer Hikaru Died manga series, written and illustrated by Mokumokuren.
Synopsis[]
After their serious argument in their classroom recently, both Yoshiki and "Hikaru" are struggling with feelings of regret and guilt. While "Hikaru" withdraws to the safety of his home, Yoshiki gets encouragement from his friends to make up with him. For their friendship's sake, Yoshiki decides to have an honest talk, and makes his way to the Indou's family home.
Plot[]
"Hikaru" saw a text from Kurebayashi on Yoshiki's phone, but Yoshiki lied when "Hikaru" pointed it out, saying that the message was from his mother. Later, "Hikaru" had a dream. In it, he walked down the road and saw that Yoshiki's bike was gone, and it reminded him of the way Yoshiki had slapped his hand away in the gym storage room.[1] Suddenly, Yoshiki appeared behind him and told him to go away because he wasn't needed anymore. "Hikaru" began to cry, and he wakes up alone in his bed.
He goes to the bathroom and stares at himself in the mirror and recalls what happened in the classroom the last time he saw Yoshiki. He had shouted that he can't stop his feelings, and his insides burst out of him. The two of them fell to the ground, his insides enveloping Yoshiki's face and body and flowing inside him. Yoshiki saw a vision of a village and a man embracing what appeared to be a severed head. "Hikaru" suddenly drew his insides back in, and both of them stared at one another, crying. "Hikaru" covered his face with his hands and apologized. He asked Yoshiki not to hate him before leaving the classroom by himself.
At school on another day, Yoshiki laments his situation. "Hikaru" can't replace the real Hikaru, and so Yoshiki shouldn't treat him like the real Hikaru either. His thoughts are interrupted by Yuuki and Asako, who asks if a fight happened between him and "Hikaru," since he is missing school and Yoshiki has a bruise on his arm. Yoshiki confirms it, and they tell him to make up since "Hikaru" has been so attached to him lately, like a little kid. Yoshiki decides he's going to apologize.
He arrives at the Indou's family home and finds "Hikaru" curled up inside a blanket. He says sorry, but "Hikaru" insists that he's the one who's sorry. Yoshiki reaches into the blanket, but flinches back when "Hikaru" reaches back out to him. Yoshiki tries to deny that he's afraid of him, but "Hikaru" doesn't believe him, shamefully calling himself disgusting for what he did. He asks if Yoshiki hates him, and shrugs off the blanket when Yoshiki is silent. He tearfully says that all he needs is to be near Yoshiki - he no longer cares who Yoshiki is meeting with, he just doesn't want to be hated by him.
Yoshiki remembers Kurebayashi's words of warning, but he feels conflicted as he begins to think of "Hikaru" as a lonely kid who just doesn't know much about people. He decides that he'll have to teach "Hikaru" himself.
