This is the Bonus Chapter for Volume 1 of The Summer Hikaru Died manga series, written and illustrated by Mokumokuren.
Synopsis[]
"Hikaru" asks Yoshiki about his bangs and why he wears them so long. Yoshiki explains that he sees them as some kind of protection and prefers them the way they are. "Hikaru" has a vastly different opinion on the matter, and comes up with a rather comical solution and decides to present it to Yoshiki at school...
Plot[]
"Hikaru"[1] asks if Yoshiki is going to cut his bangs. Yoshiki replies that he won't, because he likes having them as curtains for his face. "Hikaru" points out that they make him look gloomy. Slightly annoyed at the comment, Yoshiki explains that everyone in the village always tells him to cut them. "Hikaru" asks what he doesn't like about his face. When Yoshiki doesn't reply, "Hikaru" suggests his moles, to which Yoshiki says "That too." "Hikaru" reaches a hand up to lift some of Yoshiki's bangs away from his face, and says he thinks he's handsome. Blushing, Yoshiki removes his hand and says not to touch him. "Hikaru" interrupts and excitedly suggests that he cuts Yoshiki's bangs for him. Yoshiki immediately rejects the idea, remembering an incident some time in the past where Indou Hikaru cut his bangs extremely short. "Hikaru" accepts the rejection, but thinks to himself that it would still be troublesome for Yoshiki if his hair kept getting in the way while studying.
At school, "Hikaru" presents Yoshiki with two barrettes that are shaped in the face of a cat. Yoshiki thinks it's a joke at first, but "Hikaru" enthusiastically explains that he found them at Mion Mall and that they look like Mince-aniki. "Hikaru"'s attention is called by Maki, and when he turns around, Yoshiki secretly clips on one of the barrettes to the hair on the back of his head.
Later that night, he gets a text message from "Hikaru" saying that he only now noticed that he had the barrette on him the entire day. He tells Yoshiki that he has to wear it. Yoshiki uses it to clip his bangs back, but his sister questions him, finding it strange that he's wearing it. She asks him to give it to her since the cat is a popular character, but he says no.

- The cat barrette is a character called Labor Cat (ろうどうねこ, Rōdō neko?). It's a popular character on social media. Its concept is a cat working in various industries.[2]
