Plot[]
"Hikaru" awakens on The Other Side. It appears very similar to the regular Kubitachi, except for the presence of an enormous, circular being with an eye in the center that occupies the sky. "Hikaru" looks at it in awe, for the first time seeing what The Other Side appears like in a human's eyes.
The being turns,[4] and "Hikaru" is instantly transported into their classroom at Kibogayama High.[5] He realizes that the scenery around him is being influenced by his memories in a mixed up order. It turns, and he is transported to the movie theater next.[6] He leaves the room, it turns, and he falls into the bathtub in the Tsujinaka family home.[7] He gets out of the tub, it turns, and he is on the Forest Path between Kibogayama and Ashidori.[8] The following turns take him to Casual Diner America,[9] the beach,[10] the movie theater again, then Yoshiki's bedroom. "Hikaru"'s neck begins to pain him. Since his body is human and he's half of himself,[11] he expects that he'll be separated from Hikaru's body if he stays here too long. It turns, and "Hikaru" is transported to Nisayama, where he first awaked in Indou Hikaru's body. He stands and finds the hole directly next to him. He ignores the sudden strike of pain he feels, and pulls the stapler from his pocket.
Back in Udekari, Asako and Tanaka are preparing to negotiate with an impurity inside the hole. She pulls off one of the paper talismans attached to the door, and finds a handwritten note on the door that says "Please open. I don't need it anymore." Tanaka notes that the previous owner of the home must have written it before they ran away. He pulls the door open, and Asako instantly hears a loud cacophony of mutterings from The Other Side. She instinctually knows it's something bad. Visibly shaken, she explains this to Tanaka, who remains calm as he looks into the room. It is empty except for a large object covered with a sheet, forming a pyramidal shape.
Tanaka tells Asako to listen carefully and figure out how the impurity is acting. He then uses a special vocalization method[12] to speak to the impurity. He asks it to go to The Other Side and close the hole. Asako hears a loud slam and screaming, and Tanaka's hamster begins squeaking while it hides inside its cage. Asako tells him that it's extremely angry and doesn't think she can continue.
Tanaka holds up a Gold Silkworm, an item that some impurities have a very strong liking for, and offers it as a trade. When he sees that Asako has broken out in a cold sweat, he asks if the impurity said anything. She tells him it said the Silkworm isn't enough – it wants his "right brain" and "left side" as well. Tanaka laughs and says this is a change to negotiate.
He uses his vocalization method to speak directly to the impurity again. He agrees to the terms but says it must be done after it closes the hole. The impurity becomes enraged, letting out a loud, incomprehensible sound that causes the talisman on Asako's head to begin burning away. She tells Tanaka that it's like it's throwing a tantrum. Realizing the impurity is quite child-like, Tanaka speaks to it again. He tells it that he can't make any more concessions than what he already offered, but he informs the impurity that if the hole is closed, the owner of the house may return.
The impurity instantly calms. Asako explains that it responded to the word "owner". Tanaka tells it that the hole makes the house unlivable for the owner, which is why she left, not because they were abandoning it. He shows the impurity a bag full of animal bones which the owner had prepared as offerings for it. The impurity calls out for its mother. Tanaka offers his arm up as advance payment, and says it can take his brain and Asako's ears after it closes the hole. The impurity agrees to the deal. Tanaka's arm crackles and blackens, then falls limp at his side. The impurity suddenly shouts that it will kill its mother when she returns. Asako shrieks and Tanaka covers her eyes, telling her not to look at it. The impurity then goes to close the hole.
Tanaka considers this a success since the impurity wasn't smart enough to realize that it will be trapped on the Other Side after closing the hole, meaning it'll be unable to claim his brain and Asako's ears. He warns Asako that the hole will fight back once the impurity tries to close it. It's revealed that underneath the strange sheet was a pyramidal arrangement of arms surrounding the hole.
Meanwhile, Yoshiki gets a phonecall from "Hikaru" who tells him he's about the close the hole. Both the Ashidori and Udekari holes begin to fight back, limbs flailing.
